Player Ratings: United youngsters shine on the final day

Manchester United traveled to Molineux to face the stubborn Wolves in the final match of the season. With the second place secured in the Premier League and the Europa League final coming up in a few days, Ole continued the tradition of giving the United academy players some match time in the last match for this season.

Manchester United won the match 1-2. This win ensured that Manchester United has not lost a single away match this entire Premier League season. Some feat!

Anthony Elanga, the 19-year-old, opened the scoring as he put a thumping header past Rui Patricio. Nelson Semedo equalised for the Wolves when he slotted one past Dean Henderson. Before Juan Mata converted a penalty for the visitors to win the game after Donny Van De Beek had been brought down in the box.

Let’s look at how the players performed.

Manchester United: Player Ratings

Dean Henderson 6.5/10

He had a pretty solid game at the back. Once the defense had been caught off-guard, there was not much he could do about the Wolves goal. Otherwise, organized the defense well and his distribution was good as always.

Brandon Williams 6/10

Looked a bit rusty when the match began but considering the amount of football he has played this season that was expected. Grew into the match and overall gave a decent performance. Unlucky not to score late in the first half.

Eric Bailly 7/10

Had a good game defensively. His partnership with Tuanzebe seemed to have worked in this match. No defensive errors and kept the Wolves attack in check for the most parts.

Axel Tuanzebe 6.5/10

Could have done better to stop the Wolves’ goal-scoring chance. Apart from that did most things right. Ole will certainly have to think through who gets a start along with Lindelof on Wednesday in Poland.

Alex Telles 6/10

Can also be partly blamed for the Wolves’ goal. Other than that, had a fairly good game. Was able to play some good crosses into the box.

Nemanja Matic 6.5/10

Put in a good shift. His second half was better than the first where he shielded the defence when required.

Donny van de Beek 7.5/10

Probably his best performance for United. Was quite lively, especially in the first half. Won the penalty that won Manchester United the match.

Amad 7/10

Worked hard and showed some glimpses of brilliance. He was up against physically superior defenders but did not shy away from the challenge. Created a wonderful chance for James.

Juan Mata 6.5/10

Scored a brilliant penalty that won Manchester United the match. And released Williams for a goal-scoring opportunity. Apart from that was mostly absent from the game.

Daniel James 6/10

Set up Elanga by playing in a fantastic cross for the opening goal. Skewed a wonderful opportunity to score. For the rest of the match, he struggled to make an impact.

Anthony Elanga 8/10

Scored the first goal for Manchester United. Had a couple of more great chances as well. Looked comfortable on the ball and had a decent match. One to watch out for the future!

Substitutions:

Hannibal 6.5/10 – Made his debut and showed some impressive ball-playing skills when he came on. Did not get enough time to make an impact.

Shola Shoretire 6/10 – Played as well as he could with the limited time he had on the field.

Will Fish N/A Made his debut for United however did not have enough time to make an impact.
