As Tony Martial scores again

(goal.com)
After his stunning finish against Everton on Sunday afternoon, Anthony Martial made it four goals in three Premier league games this weekend. The in form Frenchman has started to find his mojo again as he looks to make the left hand side his own. Martial was only 19 years old when the Red devils signed him from AS Monaco for a fee of £36m, rising to £56m in September 2015, and he was unknown to many. However, now after four seasons at Old Trafford, he is adored by the reds and very impressively, since he joined the club no player has scored more goals than Anthony Martial (41).
Martial’s United career couldn’t have started any better, coming on to make his debut against arch rivals Liverpool and finishing the game off by scoring his first goal for the club (which will definitely get you an instant loving from the Old Trafford faithful). From there on he didn’t look back, making his first start eight days later. He went on to get a double in a 3-2 win at Southampton, followed by a fourth goal in three games against Ipswich Town in the league cup. He picked up a few individual awards in his first month at the club with fans’ player of the month award and goal of the month, which was obviously against Liverpool. Personally I think it was a very positive first season for Martial as he scored a total of 17 goals in all competitions and was an important figure in winning the FA cup, contributing an injury time winner against Everton in the semi-final at Wembley.

The last couple of seasons have been very testing for the Frenchman due to him being in and out of the team, with a lack of consistency and injuries playing a part too. Martial has also had to deal with big competition in the attacking areas in the last few seasons with Marcus Rashford making the step-up and the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, along with Lingard, Mata and Lukaku and ex-players such as Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimović. We have seen the Frenchman battle the last two seasons, but now the United fans are starting to see the back in form Martial again; the player they know when on form is un-droppable.

After Sunday’s game, it was also pleasing to hear the praise that came the Frenchman’s way from United boss Jose Mourinho who said, ‘He has improved everything but especially his thinking about football and thinking in his role of the team’. He added, ‘I’m really happy with him, they were difficult periods for me and him where I took him to the limits, but I’m really, really happy with Anthony’.

This will be pleasing for both Anthony Martial and the United Fans. There’s no doubt he’s a fan favourite, but there have been questions asked about his relationship with Mourinho. However, within the last week hearing the positives between one another and the talk of Martial wanting to extend his contract and the club wanting him to be tied down, the United boss and the board will be looking to wrap this up as soon as possible. Meanwhile the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping his form continues and as the chant goes ‘Tony Martial scores again’.
