Transfer Window – Why We Failed Again

After an extremely hectic transfer deadline day, where the Red Devils announced 4 signings of which two of them were teenagers it is fair to say that United couldn’t get the deals done in time because of carelessness on the part of the people in charge of these decisions. Before that our only signing of the season was Donny van de Beek. Due to this there was a lot of dissent coming from the fanbase. Still this window will go down as a huge failure. We take a look at why…

FAILURE TO LAND TOP TRANSFER TARGETS

Jadon Sancho was a priority target this summer and after chasing the deal for about three months. We still could not land him as Borussia Dortmund refused to budge in their demands for the 20 year old English winger. The failure to land Ole’s main target is extremely damning. It will have an effect on his plans for the season.

There was also the case of targeting a defender this season. That necessity was increased after United shipped 6 goals against Tottenham at home. I think it’s fair to say that Harry Maguire is not the answer. We needed a centre back next to him – preferably Upamecano but again we failed to land him.

Failed transfer
We failed to land players who can play in the RW and CB positions and that could end up costing us..

NO TRANSFER FOR DEADWOOD FC

While fans are moaning about incoming transfer or rather the lack of quality signings in positions we needed, it’s possible to forget that Sergio Romero, Phil Jones , Marcos Rojo , Jesse Lingard are still at the club. Romero is now third choice and we’re basically paying him a fortune to stay at home. He isn’t going to get game time this season because of Dean Henderson coming back. Phil Jones was handed a new contract a few years ago so it’s impossible for him to leave. Rojo just comes to visit the medical centre. The inability to ship them out highlights the incompetence of our board and the people in charge of transfers.

These players still being on the wage bill highlights incompetence..

HAPPENING FOR MANY TRANSFER WINDOWS..

The deadline day probably saved the Transfer window but still it will go down as a bad one. We needed to reinforce the squad but we didn’t. And this isn’t a one off. It’s happened to Van Gaal and Mourinho as they weren’t backed enough. Jose Mourinho cried out for a defender publicly in 2018 and wasn’t given what he wanted and he was then eventually sacked. Bad signings like – Sanchez , Falcao , Di Maria have plagued our transfer windows. And this only started after Ed Woodward was hired as David Gill’s replacement when he decided to leave. This is probably enough evidence that Woodward needs to go and a DoF needs to be brought in.

TRANSFERS STRECHED TOO LONG

We had 4 deals concluded in deadline day. That’s way too hectic for any club and we didn’t even address the main issue at the club – our shaky defence. We stretch deals for far too long as was the case with Telles and previously with Maguire where we overpaid too. Maguire is no way worth more than £30 million and I’m sure Leicester’s management would have laughed a lot at what a great coup they had managed to pull. The main problem is that we send lawyers to contact the teams and players and we look for the high profile signing instead of spending sensibly and swiftly like Liverpool and Tottenham have done over the past few years.

CONCLUSION

Ed Woodward and Matt Judge are the principal players to blame here. The Glazers are too as they are just sucking us dry by not investing anything into the club. The DoF position is still vacant. We’re unable to convince clubs to sell. Such is the state of our club right now. People who want to point the finger at Ole as to why we lost 6 – 1 may be right but the bigger issue is that he hasn’t been backed by the club at all. We need the Glazers and Woodward out before there is nothing left at the club.
