Manchester United confirmed the signing of 18-year old winger Amad Diallo Traore from Atalanta. A reported fee of £19m plus £18m in add ons agreed on transfer deadline day.
The Ivorian winger who holds the record for the youngest goalscorer in Serie A last season will join the Red Devils in January. Amad Diallo Traore, who is said to prefer the name ‘Diallo’, made just three substitute appearances in Serie A. Regardless, the Atalanta board rates him highly and judges him a superstar.
Despite his age, Solskjaer expects him to go straight into the first-team squad when he finally arrives at the club in January. This may be the result of an inability to sign Jadon Sancho this window. Or it may have been the nail in the coffin.
Amad Diallo Traoré started out at Boca Barco’s youth team in September 2014, where he was the tournament’s top go scorer. With a number of Serie A clubs interested in him, Diallo moved to Atalanta in 2015. Coming through the youth system, Diallo made his Serie A debut on 27 October 2019. Coming on from the bench on the 79th minute against Udinese. He scored his first goal for Atalanta four minutes later in a 7–1 home win. Becoming the first player born in 2002 to score in the Italian top flight. His first UEFA Champions League call-up came on 11 December 2019. Sitting on the bench in a 3–0 away win against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Diallo is yet to feature for Atalanta this seasons. Manchester United faithfuls will surely keep an eye on their new superstar before he arrives in January. We hope he proves his worth when he arrives and does not arrive in the midst of another mid-season crisis under Ed Woodward and the Glazers.
