Brighton vs. Manchester United Player Ratings

Bruno Fernandes scores with late drama for Manchester United against Brighton. His player rating could have been lower without it!

Manchester United picked up their first win of the 2020/2021 premier league season after they lost to Crystal Palace last weekend. Nevertheless, a hard-fought victory considering how slowly United played in the first half before. Lewis Dunk scored an own goal, minutes later after coming restart of the second half, Marcus Rashford proved his confidence by rounding up the Brighton defenders and Bruno Fernandes won the Red Devils the game after March equalised from a beautiful cross. Certainly a difficult victory for Manchester United and a lot to take and improve on from it. How did the players fare in this ding-dong battle? Here are the player ratings from the match.

David De Gea – 7:
The Spaniard actually had very little to do in goal. Made a great save in the ending part of the game to deny Leandro Trossard.

Aaron Wan Bissaka –5:
Often found wanting in his battles with Trossard and was worryingly guilty of being out of position on several occasions.

Victor Lindelof -6:
Lacks confidence, was unable to make line breaking passes like he used to. But turned in a better performance than he did against Palace.

Harry Maguire -7:
Like Lindelof, better performance from him than did against Palace.

Luke Shaw – 7:
Didn’t have much to do but was on the front foot.

Paul Pogba – 5:
An outing to forget for the Frenchman. Failed to make any sort of impact in the match and was lucky to have not given away a penalty shortly after the restart. Unsurprisingly, he went off.

Nemanja Matic -6:
Wasn’t effective in bringing the ball forward but was combative.

Mason Greenwood -8:
Arguably United’s liveliest player and was unlucky to have a goal and assist chalked off for offside. He can, however, be pleased with his performance.

Bruno Fernandes – 8:
Carelessly gave away a penalty but redeemed himself in the second by providing a beautiful assist in the second-half to Rashford. Showed nerves of steel in the 100th minute to score a late penalty and give United victory.

Marcus Rashford – 8:
Lively throughout and showed his class and his confidence level and trickery when firing United ahead, bamboozling the Brighton defence with several turns before firing home just before the hour mark.

Anthony Martial – 6:
Had very little service throughout the match.

Fred (for Pogba 65′) – 6:
Brought on to provide defensive stability.

Eric Bailly (Greenwood 83′) – 6:
Made a beautiful clearance.

Donny Van De Beek (Martial 90′) –
