Manchester United advances to the knockout stages of the Champions League, but truth be told it wasn’t all that convincing…yet again. But the important thing is that The Red Devils sealed their place to the knockout round and although most did not seem to impress, there were a few names that we could take some positives from, so without a further adue, lets get to it.
De Gea: 9
Spanish Dave was EASILY our player of the match last night. It only takes one chance to change a game and that’s what nearly happened last night. De Gea’s magical save basically saved the game. Jose needs to do whatever it takes to keep The Spanish GK.
I wasn’t too impressed with his return. He didn’t add much for me. He picked up a knock before his substitution.
Smalling had yet another solid performance and I can see why he’s Victor Lindelof”s CB partner. He made a basic but almost effective pass to Lingard that nearly led to a goal by Rashford.
I’m not much of a fan of Jones but I have to give credit where it is due. He was solid and made some key tackles and interceptions. He has certainly silenced me for now.
Shaw tried his best to get as far forward as he could for Man United last night but couldn’t work any magic with Martial this time. He almost had an assist as well. Also, he earned some points by rushing and pushing Jean-Pierre as he was subbed off and time wasting.
Fred was probably the best player of the night up until he was unfairly subbed off. He put in a good shift, being calm and fast on the ball. We need more of this lad.
He was booked early on but shielded the back four well for the rest of the game. It was certainly a better performance compared to most of his so far this season, but he was still a bit too slow on the ball.
Yes, our only goal scorer has only earned a 6.5. Fellaini was a bit too clumsy last night and was caught offside a bit but he found the net in Fergie time and carried us though to the knockout round.
JLingz was getting forward and positioning himself very well on the attack. Rashford had chances to pass him the ball on several occasions for a possible goal. There was good link up with him though and he was unfairly taken off.
Martial has been a man on fire but was numbered by the YB defence as they seemed to have had him figured out. He was a bit too predictable and was making poor decisions.
Man I love Rashford but also feel like kicking him at times, his movement on and off the ball is good but his decision making and finishing is hurting him desperately as he could have had himself a goal early on but hit it over the crossbar. He needs to be more clinical in front of goal.
Added a bit more creativity into the game going forward.
Steady, nothing special but nothing bad.
