Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United?

Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United? And can it be done?

This is a summer of change. We all knew this rebuild would take time…This is the ninth year Manchester United fans have said this since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. We thought we were on the cusp of glory several times after Jose Mourinho and Ole. But alas, they were not meant to be and now we try again with Erik ten Hag. Well here we are yet again. This summer we are losing Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard…almost all for free.

So will Frenkie de Jong be Ten Hag’s marquee signing?

Well if rumors are to be believed, social media is circulating that ten Hag is telling the United hierarchy to go all in for Frenkie de Jong, the talented midfielder who helped Donny van de Beek, Mathijis de Ligt and ten Hag lead Ajax to the UCL semi finals. However, now playing for Barcelona, it does not appear that De Jong wants to leave the Catalan club.

The issue is money. The La Liga side is in such financial ruin that if rumors are true, they will not be able to actually sign any new signings until they offload some payers. And with Robert Lewandoski making it clear he is ready to leave Bayern for Barcelona, they will need to offload some players. In other words, the main issue will be conivning De Jong to come to United.

On top of that, Barcelona also have to register new extensions and new signings such as Marcos Alonso, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta. The main issue is not only that De Jong wants to stay at the club, but that he wants Champions League football.

Impossible? No.

Difficult? We will see if the club can do it.
