Manchester United has bought in the likes of Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and now Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite 4 brilliant summer signings, the transfer window falls a step below perfect. United’s search for a defensive midfielder continues. United have successfully held Paul Pogba from leaving amidst links to PSG and Real Madrid this summer.
Pogba had made his intentions clear. His desire is to win. He has mentioned it on several occasions. He even mentioned it after their win against the Wolves. United seemed unstable a couple seasons ago. However they managed well to reach the Europa League Finals last season only to lose it to Villareal.
Pogba Dilemma
Reports claimed that the Ligue 1 giants, PSG were heavily linked to sign the Frenchman this summer. The Red Devil’s showed no interest in selling their most expensive player. The Board are aware that they could lose Pogba for free at the end of the season after having failed to convince him to renew his contract at the end of last season.
The signing of Ronaldo might be an influencing factor on the Frenchman’s decision about his future. The arrival of CR7 would boost United’s chances of competing for top titles this season. Its being stipulated that this chance at winning trophies would boost Pogba’s willingness to stay and renew his contract.
Pogba wanted to leave the club for PSG or Real Madrid, where he was assured to win at least a trophy every season. But the arrivals on Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Ronaldo would convince the World Cup winner to extend his stay at United. He feels that the club is finally heading in the right direction. Credit to Solskjaer’s 4 summer signings, he admitted United is strongest since his return to the club in 2016.
Manchester United will return to action against Newcastle following the International Break. 3rd place United could see Ronaldo make his second debut for the Reds.
