Cristiano Ronaldo is a talking point for Manchester United fans. He is a talking point because he can make his debut against Newcastle. If he makes his debut against Newcastle, the eyes of the world will be on him. This article gives reasons for and against him playing against Newcastle.
Reason for – Ronaldo brings quality to the team
Ronaldo will score goals for Manchester United. During his time at Real Madrid, he played 438 games and scored 450 goals. During his time at Juventus, he played 134 games and scored 101 goals. Ronaldo’s two goals in Portugal’s 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland saw him enter the Guinness World Records again. He has now scored 111 times for his country, more than any other international player in history.
Reason against – has had limited time to train with team mates
Ronaldo has to self isolate after going on an international break with Portugal. He started training on Tuesday and while that means he has had more time than others, the likes of Cavani and Greenwood have had even longer and more time to prepare. Even so, if Ronaldo can’t start, he can come off the bench and make an impact.
Reason for – Ronaldo is a leader and the club lacks leaders
CR7 is the kind of player that can lead by example. Ronaldo can encourage his teammates to work harder. He encourages his teammates because he always wants to win at all costs and, he hates losing more than anything else. This leadership quality is brilliant because it will encourage his teammates to push for results. If Cristiano encourages his teammates, then they will perform better.
Reason against – Greenwood is in good form
If CR7 plays against Newcastle, it will mean that Greenwood will have to play out of position. It could also mean that he could find a place on the bench. Being a substitute is far from ideal for Greenwood because he is in good form. This season Greenwood has netted three goals in each of United’s games. It would be harsh to take Greenwood out of the team because he ended last season on good form.
Conclusion
He should start against Newcastle because it will give the crowd a lift before kick-off. Although it would be unfair to drop Greenwood, Ronaldo starting would boost the confidence of the players and urge a win for his new team. Ronaldo’s quality means that he can start irrespective of not having a training session on Friday.
