Manchester United suffered a disappointing result on Sunday after a frustrating one all draw against West Brom.
1. There is no defensive partnership at United
United have conceded 31 goals, the most by any team in the top half of the table. Maguire and Lindelof do not complement each other. With a lack of decent options, we shouldn’t expect much in terms of title-winning contention. Just like former United’s captain, Neville said,” Lindelof’s problem is Maguire, Maguire’s problem is Lindelof.”
Both can thrive with different partners, but it is more evident that a new Centre back is one of the biggest priorities for the club.
2. Two defensive midfielders are overkill.
Ole has no confidence in his center backs, so he is forced to play with two midfielders who, to be precise, are box to box midfielders, instructing them to drop and help with defending and sacrificing control of the mid and offer little on the attack.
For a game that was there for the taking, that was one too many defensive midfielders. There is a need for a natural defensive midfielder who can do the task independently, providing the cover for the center halves and giving United the option of playing with a number 8, having more control of the midfield.
One such player is Westham’s Declan Rice, recent on our radar and a player much needed in the club
3. Moving the ball quickly
Against opposition that plays a low block, United should strive to quickly move the ball, playing one-touch football to create spaces and chances. The West Bromwich Albion was the perfect game to play Donny Van de Beek.
4. Magnificent Bruno
With stats showing Bruno involved in a goal or an assist in every game, it is clear that he is levels above his teammates. We can depend on him even when he has a bad day to produce a crucial goal. At this point, it’s time to give him the armband.
5. Time for Management to work smart
In the next transfer window, United should spend big if we are to contend for the title, and some players need to be shipped out to free up the wages and create space for the required players at the club.
