Let’s talk about Bruno Fernandes:

29 January 2020, that’s the day Manchester United told the world about signing our Portuguese playmaker. Everyone had high hopes, however, it is safe to say, Bruno has surpassed all of them.

To out that into perspective, here are a couple of stats:

  • Since starting at United, Bruno Fernandes has made 31 appearances in Premier League. Scoring a staggering 19 goals and 14 assists.
  • Moreover, our Portuguese midfielder has created 53 chances this season in the Premier League. Twice as many as the club’s second player (Luke Shaw 22).

Player Of the Month Awards And Bruno Fernandes!

Bruno Fernandes won the December ’20 Premier League player of the Month. This now takes his tally to 4 ‘Player of the Month’ awards in 2020.

He won it in February ’20. Next in June ’20. Followed by one for November ’20. And rounded off the year by winning again in December ’20.

Why Bruno Fernandes Winning 4 POTM Awards Is A Big Deal?

Well, apart from the fact that this means Bruno has been playing brilliant football and being recognized for it,

Bruno Fernandes becomes the first player in Premier League history to win the Player of the Month award FOUR times in ONE calendar year.

For context, in December, he went up against the following players for the POTM award..

  • Marcus Rashford,
  • Emiliano Martinez,
  • Anwar El Ghazi (both Aston Villa),
  • Ben Mee (Burnley),
  • Mohamed Salah (Liverpool),
  • Tomas Soucek (West Ham), and
  • John Stones (Manchester City)

Thank you very much to every fan that voted for me,”. That is what Bruno said on receiving the trophy at the Aon Training Complex.

Now, let’s look at it from one level up.

  • Firstly – Bruno has already won as many Premier League Player of the Month awards (4) as Cristiano Ronaldo did in his entire Manchester United career.
  • Secondly – Only 7 POTM awards have been given since he entered the competition and he has won 4 of them…
  • Thirdly – Only Agüero (7), Gerrard (6), Kane (6), van Persie (5), and Rooney (5) have now won it more.

In conclusion, With United 3-points clear on the top of the table. And potentially a season-defining match against Liverpool coming up. Let’s hope Bruno continues to perform exceptionally and keeps on winning more awards for himself and Manchester United.
