MAN UNITED v WOLVES – FIVE THINGS WE LEARNT

Man United beat Wolves 1 – 0 with a late-late goal from Marcus Rashford. It was a game that reminded many of the Man United of old. Just when people ruled them out, they came out swinging. Here are five things we learnt.

1. LATE IN THE GAME, MAN UNITED ARE DANGEROUS

The late goals are back at Manchester United! This is what defined us under Alex Ferguson and its nice to see it again. Firstly, Wolves need to be applauded for their defensive performance. But this is what makes teams win titles. The points you get when the game seems done and you find a way to turn things around. This season there have been multiple instances where we have won late on. Eg: Southampton, Brighton , PSG etc.

2. MAN UNITED PLAY MUCH BETTER WITH ONLY ONE HOLDING MIDFIELDER

Our best midfield trio at the moment is Bruno Fernandes – Fred – Paul Pogba/Donny Van de Beek. Van de Beek hasn’t started in a lot of games but he hasn’t done much wrong. We always seem to play better when we have one holding midfielder. This is because we are more adventurous when Pogba and Bruno play together. People have been saying that they cant play together. But that is a bag of nonsense because they proved they can play together after lockdown. We may not have Pogba for long and we need to utilise him as much as we can. He wasn’t that good today but I don’t think we would have won the game with McFred.

3. MAN UNITED’S PREMIER LEAGUE FORTUNES HAVE TURNED AROUND

At the moment, we can’t do much wrong in the Premier League. We are invincible away from home and we are starting to win games at home too. Also, Manchester United have proven under Solskjaer that they are a side who likes to go on big winning runs. It’s possible that this may be it. Second in the league isn’t a bad way to end 2020. It only seems yesterday that the fanbase was calling for his head due to the Champions League exit. Turning it around has been quite some task and credit must be given to the manager..

4. A TITLE CHALLENGE. AND JUST MAYBE..

It’s hard to believe that we are just three points off the top with a game in hand. I certainly did not imagine it yet here we are. I am absolutely delighted to be proven wrong. The win against wolves is one that reminds me of previous title winning seasons. Because, the points you take from such games end up being the difference at the end. I don’t want to get my hopes up but its nice to dream once again.

5. MARCUS RASHFORD FIRES YET AGAIN

Marcus Rashford is having some season. He has transformed under Solskjaer and is now one of the deadliest attackers in England. He is becoming remarkably consistent and seems to have fewer off days. Add that to the service he gets from Bruno and we have a great attacking lineup. He had the tenacity to keep going until the last minute that resulted in us getting three points instead of one.
