Southampton VS Manchester United: Match Analysis

Manchester United vs Southampton

Well, age is just a number, and Cavani proved it quite handsomely at the Saint Mary’s Stadium in match week 10. Manchester United came back from 2 goals down to earn a well-deserving three points as United defeated Southampton 3-2. No matter how much we praise Cavani it is surely going to be less. El Matador made a huge impact coming off the bench in the second half. He scored twice in 18 minutes that helped Manchester United to climb up to the 8th spot in the points table.

James Ward Prowse’s corner was sumptuous. He curled at pace towards the near post. Bednarek got between Rashford and Telles in the six-yard box and flicked a simple header past de Gea. The perfect lead Hassenhutl’s men were searching for against a good attacking Manchester side. Just 10′ later Ward Prowse doubled the lead for the Saints with a wonderfully taken free-kick.

The Spanish goalie tried his level best keeping that out of the goal line but his efforts eventually went in vain. David de Gea also hurt himself after colliding with the goal post. He was substituted by former Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in the second half. Southampton enjoyed the majority of the possession and in the first half. United was not looking like the best side at all but it was been a much contrasting second half for them.

El Matador does it for Manchester United.

With this win, Manchester United became the first side in Premier League history to triumph in four successive away matches despite trailing in every game. Bruno Fernandes started the proceedings with a lovely finish to the bottom left corner of the net. Then at the 74′ Cavani’s found the back of the net with a wonderful header which was assisted by Portuguese Magnifico. The 3rd and winning goal came from a free-kick, 34 yards away from the goal. Fernandes clipped to unmarked Rashford on the left. He produced a delicious cross towards the near post, where the Uruguayan International did the rest.

He flicked an accomplished header past McCarthy. The perfectly timed run, the finish all have been top-notch. It was undoubtedly one of those United’s epic matches where every fan must have relished. Telles was subbed off at 84′ as he had some injury issues. Solskjaer is now concerned about de Gea’s injury. He is hoping that he will be fit enough for the next match. Now United will travel to The Theatre of Dreams to take on the French giants Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League Matchday 4.
