INTERNATIONAL BREAK – REPORT OF PLAYERS INVOLVED

A number of Reds were involved in the international break. We take a look at what went down when they represented their nations.

INTERNATIONAL BREAK – PLAYERS INVOLVED

ENGLAND

Dean Henderson made his first international appearance for England when he came on for Nick Pope in the match against Ireland. In other involvement for the English national team Harry Maguire played in the two wins against Ireland and Iceland. He also contributed to the score line with a goal against Ireland. This should be a massive confidence boost for him considering his current situation.

THE NETHERLANDS

Donny Van de Beek was involved in all three of the games for Netherlands which saw them win twice and draw once. He scored against Spain and was instrumental in the comeback against Poland.

FRANCE

For France Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial were involved. There is a slight concern with Anthony Martial reportedly injuring his back during this time. Controversy surrounded Paul Pogba yet again as he called the break – ‘A breath of fresh air’. It is still unclear whether he will stay at Old Trafford. In my personal opinion, it is time for him to go because of stuff like this happening every international break.

SWEDEN

Victor Lindelof was the sole representative for Sweden from Manchester United. There is another concern with a back injury for him as he came off against France.

PORTUGAL

Bruno Fernandes featured in the two Nation’s league games for Portugal in which he played a role in their win over Croatia.

WALES

Daniel James found his mojo back in the game against Finland. He added to the scorline and was a constant threat throughout the game. He was also involved in the games against USA and Ireland.

SCOTLAND

Scott McTominay played a crucial role playing as a central defender to help Scotland qualify for Euro 2021. This will be Scotland’s first major international tournament in 22 years. He was also involved in the loss to Israel in the Nation’s League.

BRAZIL

In South America’s World Cup Qualifiers Alex Telles was an unused substitute in their win against Uruguay. He has recovered from COVID-19 and will be in contention to play against West Brom.

URUGUAY

Edison Cavani was on target for Uruguay. He was also sent off against Brazil.

WHAT NEXT?

The international break has probably compounded our injury crisis and came at the worst possible time for us. We had just bounced back from a string of losses with a win against Everton. We have games against West Brom, Istanbul and Southampton lined up this week and it is absolutely crucial that we win these. Now we have to go on a good run (evidently Solskjaer likes to do that). Thus, this period could define where we are as a club and what we can achieve.
