Newcastle vs Manchester United – Five Things We Learned

Manchester United finally got back on track as they thrashed Newcastle 4 – 1 after coming from behind. Goals from Bruno, Rashford, Maguire and Wan Bissaka helped their cause. We take a look at five things we learnt.

1. BRUNO IS IMPORTANT TO MANCHESTER UNITED

It has to be said, Bruno didn’t have that great a game last night. He was a bit wasteful in his passes. And also he missed a penalty for the first time in 4 years. Still, he was the one who got us over the line and is my Man of the Match. Even if he plays badly, he creates at least three scoring chances. And like always he adds to his stats. That’s the thing about Fernandes that he will always give you something other players in the team can’t give. Against Newcastle he took a lot of risky passes with most of them not paying off. But he was the difference between winning and losing. He scored one, while assisting another and created 6 chances. What more can you want from a midfielder.

2. DAVID DE GEA HAS STILL GOT IT

David de Gea probably saved us on more than one occasion. Today he showed that he has still got the exceptional save in him. That save against Callum Wilson was absolutely outstanding when he clawed it back from close range. If that went in, I dont think we would have won the game. The Spaniard rescued us as he has done time and time again. I think the competition with Dean Henderson is doing him wonders. He is finally looking like what he used to be. As of now he needs to be in the first team playing all Premier League matches.

3. WAN BISSAKA IS BACK FOR MANCHESTER UNITED

Aaron Wan Bissaka was exceptional yesterday. Apart from the goal which was exquisite he was good defensively too. After a sluggish start to the season it finally came together for him. He kept Saint Maximin in check for the whole game. He made two key tackles and also had 69 touches in the entire game. Hopefully he can continue this in the following tough schedule….

4. JUAN MATA IS NOT DONE YET

Juan Mata was a creative force on Saturday and many expected him to start on the right with Martial absent. Mata’s football intelligence has never been in doubt. The only thing that is pointed out from his game is that – he lacks pace because of his age. That shouldn’t necessarily be a problem and in my personal opinion he needs to be managed well because Mata has the ability to break down low blocks with his passing game and should be utilised in games where the teams just sit back and defend. That’s exactly what happened against the Magpies. Him and Bruno compliment each other really well.

5. MAN UNITED’S CONFIDENCE IS BACK

The win was deserved and we probably could have had more. We played extremely well and Ole would be extremely happy with the response he got. This was probably expected but still United’s players were smiling and the confidence is back. We need to keep it going now. PSG will be a tough game but we need a win against Chelsea. We need to keep the momentum going and it is up to the coaching staff and Ole.
