Manchester United vs Chelsea Five Things We Learned

Manchester United and Chelsea played out a bore 0 – 0 draw on a cold rainy night at Old Trafford. United after this result have 7 points from five games and have once again started the season badly. Here are five things we learnt.

1. MANCHESTER UNITED HAD NO APPETITE TO WIN

It started with the team news to be honest when Edinson Cavani and Greenwood were left out and James and Mata were picked instead. We set ourselves up really badly from the start and we rarely created anything that could give us some joy. Apart from the last thirty minutes there was little to no effort as we played sideways football and honestly the game could have used something to spark things up. As a result, this draw now leaves us with 7 points from five games and with difficult fixtures coming up, we need to get things in order otherwise we are going to struggle throughout the season

2. LINELOF PROVED HATERS WRONG

Victor Lindelof proved once again why he has Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s trust as he was clearly the best player on the pitch for Manchester United. His stats speak volumes defensively but he impressed going forward too. He had two attempted take-ons and created a chance. According to me, he is the most reliable centre back at Man United. Axel Tuanzebe should be partnered with him as it will provide good balance.

‘The Iceman’ was ice cold on Saturday.

3. EDINSON CAVANI IS ONE TO WATCH AT MANCHESTER UNITED

It was almost the perfect start for the centre forward as he almost scored with his first touch in a Man United shirt. El Matador, as he is called can be an extremely good signing and can have the same effect that Zlatan Ibrahimović had to the attacking unit. According to me he should be starting instead of Dan James in the game against Arsenal with Martial still suspended.

4. DAN JAMES NEEDS A LOAN MOVE AWAY FROM MAN UNITED

Another Day, yet another disappointing performance from Daniel James. He clearly needs a loan move away from Man United. Firstly, he was extremely poor as his decision-making cost us some big chances. Secondly, he is pretty one-dimensional in the way he plays. Only raw pace doesn’t make you a good player. Football intelligence is a must especially playing in the Premier League. I seriously don’t know what’s gone wrong with Dan James. It’s simply fallen apart after such a bright start. Because of his poor form and failure to adapt, a year in the Championship would do him good.

Man United James
The Welshman was again below par today

5. DONNY VAN DE BEEK NEEDS GAME TIME

Why has Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Van de Beek if he has no intention to play him? The game was begging for a spark and Van de Beek is player who has it in him to create something out of nothing. He has been impressive whenever he has played. Yet Solskjaer refuses to start him in the midfield picking Scott over him. I love McTominay and I understand what he brings to the team, however I think we could have done without two holding midfielders on Saturday. Van de Beek needs to play!
