Carabao Cup Tie Summary
Manchester United picked up a second victory in less than a week against Brighton, knocking Brighton out of Carabao Cup with a 3-0 win at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday evening. Here are the player ratings from last night’s performance:
Starting XI Player Ratings:
Dean Henderson 7
Solid outing from the man who wants to challenge David de Gea. Largely untested but what a save to deny Trossard to keep the score at 1-0.
Diogo Dalot 6
Rusty, edgy and cagey that’s exactly how Diogo Dalot was last night. Made a couple of good forward bursts but overall a lacklustre performance.
Eric Bailly 8
Standout performers in defence, his athleticism, and aerial prowess can be a huge asset to Manchester United if he stays fit and can challenge Lindelof for his spot.
Victor Lindelof 6
Sloppy tackle in the second half that led to a dangerous set-piece from Brighton but looked comfortable in Bailly’s shadow.
Brandon Williams 6
Kept Jahanbakhsh’s runs under control and decent outing for the left-back.
Fred 6
Steady job done but failed to break the line of play continuously. Average outing and nothing outstanding.
Scott McTominay 7
Scored a header from Juan Mata cross. Put in a shift by chasing opponents and closing them down.
Donny van de Beek 8
Clever positioning, creating chances by movement, and a classy flick for the second goal that sums up Donny van de Beek’s night.
Juan Mata 9
Whenever given the opportunity, Juan Mata showed why he was one of the best in the world at one point in time. Great free-kick and a calm finish to score on the night. As we said previously, given a chance, Juan Mata can still roll back the years.
Daniel James 7
Seems comfortable on the left-hand side and made dangerous runs inside the box but still lacks the final ball.
Odion Ighalo 5
Was often left isolated, had a brilliant chance to score the goal but shot it just wide.
Substitute Player Ratings:
Paul Pogba 7
Added much-needed composure and bite in the midfield when Brighton looked threatening. Found the net with a deflected freekick.
Marcus Rashford 6
United found more space as soon as Rashford came in because he stretched the play up front and United looked more dangerous.
Jesse Lingard 6
Didn’t have much time to make an impact but nevertheless a brief cameo in the Carabao Cup.
