United’s renewed interest in Alex Telles

Manchester United are looking to resolve their left-back problems and once again Alex Telles has been linked with The Red Devils. The 27 year old left back from Porto is one who has been previously linked with United and it could actually happen this season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to improve on the particular position.

Porto’s star left back is going to be out of contract next summer and it is looking like he is going to end his 4 year stay in Portugal and look for a new challenge. Manchester United provide just that and he could be available for a cut price deal in the region of £25 – 30 million. He isn’t the only left back linked with the Red Devils as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is looking to complete the signing of Real Madrid’s out of favour left back Sergio Reguilon. If the deal doesn’t go through, Telles is more than capable of playing in the Premier League and can be rotated effectively with Luke Shaw and act as a backup for him. This would mean that Brandon Williams will get shifted to right back, acting as backup for Aaron Wan Bissaka.

United have a thing for signing players from the Portuguese Premier League. Could he be the next success story??

Many outlets have claimed that Porto’s representatives have established contact with Manchester United over a possible transfer and this is after PSG cooled their interest in him and Chelsea signed Ben Chilwell. Wolves and Barcelona are the other interested parties. Telles would be a fine addition to any squad and would probably walk into most first teams. He could be Manchester United’s second signing of the window which has been underwhelming for them so far. Porto rate their key man at £35 million but any potential deal could see this figure go down to around £27 million due to the current financial environment.

Telles’ is a fairly attacking wing back with the ability to score and create. last season he scored 13 (most of them screamers from outside the box, like Antonio Valencia used to score) and created 12 in all competitions which is just a crazy statistic for someone who plays at left back. He will be a great improvement attacking wise on Luke Shaw and actually they could play together with Luke Shaw shifting to a left centre-back position.

Looking at these stats you could easily be fooled that he is not a full back.

He is also defensively solid with him averaging about 1.1 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game. Telles could be one of the signings of the season if we get it over the line and personally I would prefer him over Sergio Reguillon. His work-rate is exceptional as he seemingly doesn’t get tired of running and he is extremely quick and would be a great signing for the Red Devils.

Defensively solid and extremely quick… Certainly worth looking at

Alex Telles’ is arguably Porto’s best player and unlike many players in our squad has loads of Champions League experience. According to many outlets, it is reported that Chelsea were previously interested in acquiring his services but choose to sign Ben Chilwell instead. Their loss could be our gain as in my opinion Telles is a far better left back as compared to Chilwell and it could solve our problem of our over-reliance on our midfield to create chances. Since Aaron Wan Bissaka is not that offensively inclined, Telles could add much needed balance to our defensive line. £30 – 35 million for him is a steal and we will need to move quick otherwise there are many interested parties including Barcelona. The scouting department need to have a serious look at him. Sergio Reguillon’s potential transfer has been reportedly stalled due to Real Madrid wanting a buy-back clause and thus we could look towards the 27 year old Brazilian to fill a void in our squad….
