It has been a rollercoaster of a time for Paul Pogba at Manchester United. From his unceremonious departure to Juventus after not signing a new contract with United in 2012, to at the time, a record setting transfer fee for “Pogback” in 2016, Pogba’s Red Devils’ career has been fraught with controversy.

Always rumoured to be back out the door, particularly with having the vociferous Mino Raiola for an agent, Pogba did not seem to be part of the future with Manchester United as late as this past winter. In fact, in summer of 2019, the French star was quoted as saying that it might be time for a “new challenge” according to Sky Sports.

In a season that saw Pogba sidelined for various injuries and miscommunications along the way, it seemed inevitable that Pogba might have played his last game in a United shirt after the 4-1 win against Newcastle. There was even chatter that the signing of Bruno Fernandes was a “replacement” for Pogba, even though they do different things on the pitch. However, since the acquisition of Bruno Fernandes, and United’s form in ‘project restart’ being good enough to secure a Champions League place for next season, Pogba is now said to be happy at United according to Fabrizio Romano, and wants a new contract to stay a Red.

His form on the defensive side of the midfield and his linkup play with Bruno Fernandes and the United attack has been key to United’s success domestically, and has fans dreaming of what this squad could be with a full season of Paul Pogba with a rejuvenated squad. But until then it is a waiting game to see whether Pogba will sign the new deal, but it looks more and more likely with the wage bill severely decreased following the departure of Alexis Sanchez.
