It is no secret that Manchester United are concerned about the loss in form of David De Gea. On one side is the rise of Dean Henderson and the other side is English Media linking various goal keepers to Old Trafford. One of them being Leicester star Kasper Schmeichel who has been with Leicester City for almost a decade. After a good season with the Brendan Rodgers led Leicester this season, Schmeichel appears to present a strong case to become De Gea’s replacement in United.

David De Gea’s form has been spiraling downwards since the 2018 World Cup and that game against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal. On 16 September 2019, Manchester United confirmed that De Gea had signed a four year contract renewal, keeping him at the club until at least June 2023 Some section of fans believe that David De Gea should be sold and Dean Henderson should be recalled from his loan spell at Sheffield United.

De Gea’s form has sparked a debate over whether he should be sold or not

Mikkel Bischoff, who spent four years with Manchester City, says it would be a dream come true for Schmeichel to be United’s No.1. British newspaper The Sun claimed United are keen on Schmeichel, son of Red Devils legend Peter.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet (via Sport Witness), former centre-back Mikkel Bischoff has provided further insight into Schmeichel’s mindset over a move to Old Trafford. The pair worked together while Schmeichel was a Manchester City youth player. Bischoff said

“Schmeichel is a huge United fan. He always has been and always will be, it will be the biggest dream come true if he were to succeed [in joining United]. If Kasper gets the opportunity to play just ten games for United, then he jumps. It’s simply so big for him. He is such a big fan that he will do anything to get to that club.”

The Danish legend is also optimistic that despite Schmeichel already being over 30 years old, there is no doubt regarding his abilities. Bischoff particularly pointed out that the most successful goalkeepers in the past for Manchester United were already in their 30’s.

“United will certainly not be deterred by his age of 33 years. The most successful goalkeepers at the club in recent years have been well into their thirties, [Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar]. He can easily play three or four good years there,” he pointed out.

Kasper Schmeichel Reportedly on Manchester United Radar to Replace David De Gea

Schmeichel recently launched a passionate defence of De Gea amid criticism of United’s number one.t

It can be very difficult and you’ve got to remember, and this is with absolutely no disrespect to journalists or pundits, but you’ve actually never stood in that goal, You would classify things as mistakes or errors, and there are glaring sometimes, but often this narrative can be created around a goalkeeper because it’s the pundits and journalists’ job to educate and that’s their job.

Aside from Schmeichel, United has also been linked to various players like Sancho, Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhaes while some tabloids also report United’s interest in Porto’s left back Alex Telles and Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
