Chelsea vs Manchester United Preview

Source: Evening Standard

On Wednesday the 30th of October Manchester United travel Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. Manchester United come in to this game with two victories and two draws in their last five games, Chelsea come in to this having won all of the last 5 games. With this stat and the fact that Chelsea are playing at home we can say clear favourites for the victory. So Manchester United will have to cause and upset if they want to progress to the next round of the cup.

In recent memory Manchester United vs Chelsea has always been a fiercely contested fixture. While current form favours Chelsea the form in this fixture in recent years favours Manchester United with them getting two wins and two draws in a last five games, whilst scoring 9 and only conceding 4 during that time.

Manchester United have been in a recent uptake of good form with two victories in their last two games, against Norwich and Partisan respectively. These two results put an end to United’s recent terrible form, especially their form away from home of which before the previous two games play hadn’t won since the win in Paris in the Champions League last season. The last game against Norwich was also a huge step forward as it was the first time we have scored more than one goal in again since the first day of the season against Chelsea. The fans will be hoping that this is a sign of things to come and that the early season stutters are now well and truly behind them.

Even with the return of Martial and Wan Bissaks in recent weeks, Manchester United still remain plagued by injuries with Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Axel Tuanzebe, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw are all out for the Carabao Cup clash. So even against a team such as Chelsea we should expect to see plenty of rotation and opportunities for the youth players.

Predicted XI: Romero, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire (c), Rojo, Williams, Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Mata, Rashford, Martial

Predicted Result: 2-1 to United
