Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United. What We Learned.

Manchester United fall to their second defeat in a row and this time they are knocked out of the FA Cup in a 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Which for me, was a well-deserved victory as Man United were simply outclassed today by their opposition. Man Utd created very few chances for their side in the Quarter Finals against Wolves and now United remain in one other cup competition and that is the Champions League in which they have a very big task in front of them in La Liga giants, Barcelona.

Rashford scored the only goal for Manchester United in the very late stages of the match (95th minute) but it was already too late for the Red Devils to make a comeback as they saw their FA Cup run come to an end at Molineux.

But what all did we learn (if anything) from this horrendous performance and defeat?

Wolverhampton vs Manchester United FA Cup Quarter Finals.

Herrera, Martial and Lingard Rushed Too Soon.

Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard were back in the starting Xl against Wolves but don’t think ought to have been on the pitch this soon after being sidelined and it truly showed. Herrera I think, did the best out of the three but Martial clearly did not have his boots today as he added very little towards the attack and Lingard was obviously still not 100% fit to be starting straight away as he was taken off during the second half.

No Dea Gea? No Problem…

We all know Sergio Romero is the FA Cup goalkeeper so it was to no surprise that we saw him in the starting XI. Romero was by far the best player in Red – except for the fact he wasn’t even wearing red…but you get the point right? Romero made two spectacular saves in the first and second half and was the reason Man United didn’t concede until late on. The way the first half ended made it clear that Wolves were bound to score eventually seeing how much space and opportunities they made for themselves. But other than the goals he conceded which weren’t entirely his fault, he showed us and the fans why he is the best ‘back-up’ goalie in the world.

Romelu Lukaku Physicality Missing.

Big Rom was out for the FA Cup clash due to a foot injury he picked up and was forced to see this one out and boy did Manchester United miss him today! Rashford and Martial were United two strikers against Wolves and did not match the strength and power that Conor Coady and Willy Boly possess and rarely ran directly at the centre backs and so were very isolated figures and had to drop very deep to recieve the ball. Lukaku could have been very useful for United today to match their defensive strength and bring the other attackers into the game, something neither Rashford nor Martial were able to do.

Manchester United are still hoping to save their season and grab some silverware as well but they do have yet another Quarter Final coming up soon in the Champions League and hope to pull off another magical moment and get past Barcelona. It won’t be easy but this is Manchester United and never write them off.
