Southampton Vs Manchester United Player Ratings

Image result for southampton vs manchester united

As Manchester United just wrapped up a trip to St. Mary’s, it was yet another frustrating and roller- coaster of a ride at Southampton, after being 2-0 down in the first 20 minutes of the first half, the result ended in a 2-2 draw after yet another comeback that was also in the first half. With goals from Lukaku and Herrera that put us back into the game & Rashford with two assist, it was not a pretty game to see and a bit hard for someone like myself to sit through. But without a further ado, let’s get into the player ratings for the fixture at St.Marry’s.

MAN UNITED RATINGS:

De Gea: 6.5
Yes, it may be a bit harsh to give De Gea a low score but other than two goals conceded, he barely had anything to so & just made some more basic and simple saves.

Jones: 6
I honestly forgot he was in the game but looked solid and was compact for me.

Matic: 5.5
Matic Didn’t pick up Armstrong which led to the first goal for Southampton. Marked some of his men well during the 2nd half but still not good enough. Played out of position so must have been difficult for him.

McTominay: 3
Again, when McTominay starts we concede 2 goals. Happened at West Ham & happened again against the Saints. Out of position along with Matic.

Young: 4.5
Young was poor on his set pieces today, seems like he doesn’t know how to cross a ball at times, he just crosses without looking. Suspended for Arsenal. May be a blessing in disguise.

Shaw: 5
Shaw picked up an injury towards the end and was replaced by Dalot. But on his 150th appearance tonight, couldn’t make anything happen.

Herrera: 7
Herrera was probably our best midfielder today and he hardly even makes the team sheets. Made the goal to equalize (2-2) he was one of the positives to make of tonight!

Pogba: 5
Just another disasterclass from Paul Pogba tonight. Paul tried to pull out some of his 5 star skills today but couldn’t make anything of it as he gave up on some of the balls that were taken away from him. His lobs were off point today. Very disappointing performance from the Frenchman.

Fellaini: 6
Did not provide anything in the game, almost forgot he was playing at times.

Rashford: 7.5
Other than cause the free kick that lead to the 2nd goal for Southampton, Rashford actually looked quite good today with 2 assist and making his runs. Best player tonight for me.

Lukaku: 6.5
Lukaku got back on the scoresheet as he desperately needed, and started Manchester United’s comeback trail. But other than the goal he didn’t show much as he injured himself with his own first touch…

Subs:
Martial: N/A
Was sent on late & didn’t add much, as with the rest of the subs tonight

Lingard: N/A

Dalot: N/A

Jose Mourhino: 2
I don’t normally do manager ratings but today I feel it is necessary to do so, the tactic of 3 in the back with Jones, Matic & McTominay was really weak. He made his substitutes late. He’s very lucky to get a 2 because if it wasn’t for the draw, it would have been worse.
