Manchester United Player Ratings:

Lee Grant (6) –Made some decent saves during his time on the field and couldn’t really do anything against the goal for Milan, another solid game for United’s 3rd choice.

Matteo Darmain (6) – A solid performance from United’s unlike captain on the night, o
verlapped well in a wingback role but his final ball could be improved.

Eric Bailly (5) –
He and other United defenders let Suso get in behind him for Milan’s equaliser and he really didn’t look too comfortable in a back three when defending, however he did look good on the ball.

Chris Smalling (6) – He was the leading the back 3 and looked solid in that role.
Axel Tuanzebe (5) – He quick and strong but still a bit naive when tracking runner in behind, he has plenty of time to work on that though.
Luke Shaw (6) – Did well when going forward with his running, and his effort from distance in the second half, still questions over whether he’s first team quality.

Ander Herrera (6) – Didn’t do a lot wrong, tried to get forward when he could and kept possession when he needed to.

Andreas Pereira (7) – Had yet another impressive and
composed displays at the base of midfield and very positive on the ball.

Scott McTominay (6) – Helped drive United up the pitch and had a solid game in midfield

Juan Mata (7) –
Worked well in behind Sánchez and provided a great assist for him for United’s only goal of the game.

Alexis
Sánchez (9) – The best player on the pitch he had a game to remember and shows us there is more to come from him in a United shirt, also took his goal really well against Donnarumma.

SUBS:

Joel Pereira (6) – Made a good save from Borini to keep United in the game and also saved 3 penalties in the shootout, a great cameo from the young shot stopper.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah (5) –
Borini got in behind him for Milan’s best chance late on but he scored his penalty in the shootout.
Ethan Hamilton (N/A) – Too late to mark.
