Fulham vs Manchester United Preview

Manchester United travel to Fulham in their final game before the World Cup begins next week. United got back to winning ways with a 4-2 win over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. They will face Burnley in the 4th Round. Fulham looked to get a point against Manchester City but struggled to take advantage of their 11 men to City’s 10 and conceded a soft penalty late on.

It should be a good watch if Fulham are able to take advantage of United’s tendencies to an early collapse. However, the weakened side may prove to be outclassed by United’s ability to maintain possession and create regular chances. Here’s all you need to know:

Fulham vs Manchester United Team News

Fulham

Kenny Tete and Harrison Reed will miss the match due to suspension. Aleksandar Mitrovic will miss the game due to a fott injury along with Neeskens Kebano and Manor Solomon. Andreas Pereira will be available to feature against his former club for the first time since leaving this summer. He has 2 goals and 4 assists already for Fulham this season.

Manchester United

Manchester United could be without trio, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Antony who all missed the victory against Aston Villa in the cup. Tuanzebe and Williams remain out and Dalot is suspended leaving Aaron Wan-Bissaka a likely candidate for his first start of the season.

Fulham vs Manchester United Interesting Facts:

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 14 games against Fulham. Their last loss was a 3-0 defeat at Craven Cottage in 2009.
  • Since keeping three clean sheets in a row, Manchester United have conceded five goals in their last two games. Four of which have been in the first 10 minutes of either half. Slow starters…
  • Bruno Fernandes is five goal contributions off 100 for Manchester United. He has played 145 times for the club since joining in 2020

Predicted XI:

I expect De Gea to come back in as he waves his teammates off to the World Cup. Wan-Bissaka could come in and secure the right hand side for United. A huge chance to prove himself. With the aerial threat of Vinicius and not too many fast runners in behind, Harry Maguire seems a sensible candidate to partner Lisandro Martinez. Luke Shaw should continue at left back despite an impressive performance from Malacia in the cup.

In midfield, I can expect Casemiro to retain his position while Eriksen and McTominay make up the midfield three. With Antony and Sancho unlikely to feature, I would expect Bruno to keep his place on the right and Rashford should also keep his place on the left. Up front, I’ll back Anthony Martial to start again as he was very bright against Villa in the cup and will want a few more minutes before some extra training during the World Cup.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, McTominay, Eriksen; Fernandes, Rashford, Martial

Fulham vs Manchester United Predicted Score:

Don’t be surprised to see Fulham score early. It is trademark for United to concede from sloppy and sluggish starts. It’s whether United can recover and rip this weakened Fulham apart and I will back them to do so. They have the creativity they need and the dynamic forwards too, it’s just the case of putting the ball into the net and I think if Martial and Rashford start with Fernandes and Eriksen, it shouldn’t be long before they fire United into the lead.

United to win 1-3
