Leicester City vs Manchester United Preview

Manchester United search for three wins in a row at out-of-form Leicester. Brendan Rodger’s team is in horrible form and lies at the bottom of the table after four games played. Having lost Wesley Fofana to Chelsea and not invested at all, to me, they look in deep trouble. Especially if Tielemans is to leave as well. There are reports that Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of being sacked and perhaps a heavy loss to United would put the final nails in the coffin. United are looking to push their new-found confidence as far as they can and punish a team in poor form. New additions, Antony and Dubravka may not be available for selection but the current team has enough confidence, know-how and determination to get a result in the midlands. Here’s all you need to know:

Team News:

Leicester City

The only real concerns for Leicester remain midfield duo, Wilfried Ndidi and James Maddison. While Ndidi is likely to return to the lineup, Maddison seems to be only fit enough for the bench. Leaving Dewsbury-Hall as his deputy. Ayoze Perez came off the bench against Chelsea and impressed so may come into the starting XI. Wesley Fofana has left the club for Chelsea.

Manchester United

United are set to be without Martial and Lindelof again. Both should make the bench but won’t start. Casemiro could make his full debut at Leicester and could replace Eriksen who disappeared in the second half against Southampton. Pellistri and Williams remain injured while Garner is on the verge of joining Everton. United could rotate too given their home game against Arsenal approaching on Sunday.

Interesting Facts:

  • Manchester United have not beaten Leicester in five attempts. Their last win was on the final day of the 19/20 season courtesty of Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard.
  • Incidentally, this was the last time United kept a clean sheet against Leicester. Since then, United have shipped 12 goals against the Foxes.
  • Jamie Vardy has 10 G/A in 16 matches against Manchester United

Predicted Team:

Manchester United could make a few changes with Arsenal on Sunday. Harry Maguire could come in against his former club to relieve Varane for a game. However, I think that will be all for the defensive side of things. I think Casemiro may come in for Eriksen and allow an impact option for the Dane if needed. I also think the front three will stay the same as energy will be required early on against Leicester and rotation can come in later in the game.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia; Casemiro, McTominay, Fernandes; Sancho, Elanga, Rashford

Leicester City vs Manchester United Predicted Score:

If Leicester play the way they’ve started the season and play the way they did against Chelsea in the first half, United can mount attack after attack but unlike Chelsea, they’ll keep hunting. I can see a good scoreline to take against league leaders, Arsenal and bring momentum into what will start to be a tough run for United.

United to win 0-3
