Manchester United was once again left frustrated by Watford at the Theatre of Dreams. It was a back-to-back home draws for the Rangnick’s men. The last one came against Southampton a few days back and this was Watford’s first ever point grabbed at Old Trafford.
With Arsenal finding the ways to win the matches, they are now the favourites for the UCL qualifications. With games coming thick and fast for United that too against tough sides like City, Tottenham, and Liverpool. The realistic chances are quite thin.
Despite creating so many chances and keeping possession most of the time(67%) United managed only 3 shots on target. Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo were the players who should be blamed for. They were way poor and below their expectations.
Ronaldo who is currently 37, is struggling and seems to be inevitable in the toughest league. But things are more concerning for Bruno Fernandes nowadays. He didn’t have a great night as well in the mid-week against Atletico Madrid.
The United midfielder wasted 2 easy chances and lost position 5 times in the midfield. Ronaldo who came very close for the United’s 1st goal hit the base of the post from a wonderful cross from Wan-Bissaka. Fernandes had another golden chance which he wasted. He could have easily passed on to Ronaldo who was free but even in the position he was in, he should have scored.
Watford had nothing much to do in the opponent’s half in the opening 45′ as it was one-way traffic. If this was any other team with a proper finisher the scoreline could have been at least 2-0 up.
2nd Half drama continued for Manchester United.
Pogba-Elanga build-up was the best football played by United in yesterday’s match. But Elanga failed to keep that in the target too. After a few minutes, Ronaldo’s shot was blocked by his own teammate Bruno Fernandes. It seemed that nothing was working well for them. The goal conversion rate shows how United has been poor for the last 4 matches.
United was desperate for the 3 points as they pushed very hard in the last 5 minutes. Shaw was replaced by Telles in the 74th minute. The English left-back came up with a few wonderful and dangerous-looking crosses but again no one in the box to guide it behind the net.
Ismaila Sarr almost fired the ball into De Gea’s net in the kick of the game. That would have been some embarrassing moments for the Reds if Watford found the way to win it in 90+3′. With hopes and spirit down now Manchester United enter into the month of death.
