Manchester United vs Southampton: Player Ratings

Yet another passionless draw, yet another 2 points lost. Manchester United have yet again drawn another match. Here are the player ratings for the match:

David De Gea (7/10) :

Made 2 decent saves at the end of the first half. Did decent apart from failing to save Adam’s shot which gave away United’s lead.

Diogo Dalot (5.5/10) :

Did well in the attacking part. He had fantastic long and short-range passing but was out of position when Adams scored the equaliser. Can improve his decision-making ability.

Raphael Varane(6/10) :

Did some decent clearances but looked somewhat out of pace. He was outside the backline when Adams scored.

Harry Maguire (4.5/10) :

Had a decent performance in the first half as compared to his previous performances but he got awkward in the second half. Especially when Armando Broja skipped past him.

Luke Shaw (5/10):

Did well going up the field. Made an impressive block against James Ward-Prowse’s early shot.

Scott McTominay (5/10):

Competitive against Ward-Prowse and got a booking in the first half. However, when the Saints gained control, he lost control.

Paul Pogba (7/10):

As predicted by various fans, Paul Pogba is thriving under Ralph Rangnick owing to the German’s great use of midfielders. Brought on a decent performance but failed to deliver a game-changing moment. He also had a goal disallowed due to Ronaldo being offside.

Bruno Fernandes (6/10):

Gave a very good ball over the top to Rashford who then assisted it to Sancho to make it a goal. He however was visibly frustrated after United gave away the lead.

Marcus Rashford (4/10):

Began the game poorly but did well to assist Sancho in his goal. Apart from that, he was pretty bad. Ralph should really consider starting Elanga over him.

Jadon Sancho (8/10):

Yet another brilliant individual performance by Jadon Sancho. He’s really thriving in the winger role. He caused Southampton repeated issues down their right flank with his dribbling and also scored the only goal for United.

Cristiano Ronaldo (4/10):

The Portuguese striker has been going through a rough patch lately. Had it not been for the absence of Edinson Cavani, Ronaldo wouldn’t have been given the start by Ralf. Had a shot saved and a goal ruled out for offside.

Substitutes:

  1. Jesse Lingard – N/A
  2. Anthony Elanga – 5/10
