Norwich vs Manchester United Preview

Manchester United to continue good run against Norwich?

Manchester United travel to Norwich in good spirits and a well-rested squad. United made 11 changes midweek against Young Boys, leaving the whole starting XI that faced Crystal Palace out of the matchday squad. This could be a crucial opportunity for United. They have a busy December schedule but with the Champions League finished and no Carabao Cup to worry about, all focus goes on the Premier League.

The first of the festive fixtures lies away to Norwich. Norwich are bottom of the league and winless in three. Without one of their standout players in United loanee, Brandon Williams, they could be even more vulnerable defensively. Can United continue their three game winning run in the league? Here’s all you need to know:

Norwich City vs Manchester United Team News:

Norwich City

As mentioned, Brandon Williams is inelligble to feature against his parent club and so will miss the match despite impressing recently for the Canaries. After missing the last few matches due to COVID-19 reasons, Todd Cantwell is now available to play. Mathias Normann will not feature.

Manchester United

Manchester United remain without French trio, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was stretchered off against Young Boys and is likely to be out for a while. Edinson Cavani has trained with the squad along with Varane. However, neither will be ready to feature for United yet.

Interesting Facts:

  • Norwich are the League’s lowest scorers with just eight goals scored this season. Pukki has scored five of these and has scored 47% of Norwich’s Premier League goals since joining the club. (16 goals out of 34)
  • Manchester United have beaten Norwich four games in a row and haven’t lost at Carrow Road since 2012.
  • Last time Norwich were in the league, United won 4-0 at home and 3-1 away. Of those seven goals, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial scored a combined five goals against the Canaries.
  • Manchester United have not kept back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League since March 2021.
  • Harry Maguire is set to make his 125th United appearance on Saturday.

Predicted Lineup

Manchester United are very likely to play the same team that faced Crystal Palace. There are only two potential changes. I can see Mason Greenwood come in for Marcus Rashford who was rather underwhelming on Saturday but a rest and another week of training could rejuvinate him. Greenwood scored a super goal and was the shining light on Wednesday night. Luke Shaw impressed against Young Boys and provided a great assist to Greenwood. I think he will miss this one out but once again competition fuels him and it could prove a good headache for Rangnick to have.

Predicted XI (4-2-2-2): De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; McTominay, Fred; Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford, Ronaldo

Predicted Score:

If United can be clinical in the opening 45 minutes, they could put Norwich to the sword. Defensively, Norwich are very vulnerable and struggle to play out of a press. This could be messy for the Canaries and it could be any score. I’ll be conservative and say 4-0 but I think it could be much higher.

Predicted Score: 0-4 to United
