We need to see more from Manchester United
Rating the weekend match between the Red Devils and the Foxes.
The weekend has come and gone, and Manchester United has shown there is still work to be done when it comes to the performances. The team was simply not good enough, and the tactics need to change soon. Because it feels like week in and week out, we rely on induvial brilliance.
Leicester City vs Manchester United Player Ratings
David De Gea: 6/10
I would rate him to a 7/10 but the fact that four were let in is still something that I cannot get over. He had a brilliant game and his defence let him down.
Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 4/10
Poor showings from our fullbacks hurt the team on a game that starts a tough run of matches for United.
Victor Lindelöf: 6/10
Definitely the better of the centre-backs but that still isn’t saying much for how poorly we played as a team.
Harry Maguire: 2/10
This is where one of the major issues with Ole Gunnar Solskjær comes in. Maguire did not look match ready and it showed. He was directly responsible for the first equaliser, and it looked like He was barely able to keep up the whole match. When healthy, Maguire is a defensive anchor, but without him fully healthy and Varane injured, this is worrying for the squad.
Nemanja Matic: 4/10
The performance showed that the Matic of 6 years ago would win us the league. Matic of now, not so much.
Paul Pogba: 4/10
Definitely a match to forget for the temperamental Frenchman. If this poor run of form continues, it is not hard to believe that we will see the back of Pogba come season end as he leaves a free agent.
Bruno Fernandes: 6/10
Asides from a beautiful assist on a Mason Greenwood screamer, a quiet game from the Portuguese Magnifico. Looking to bounce back mid-week against Atalanta.
Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho: 7/10
Can’t fault the young lions too much for this. You could see the hunger in their eyes and how much they wanted to win this. With Greenwood’s screamer and Sancho’s attacks, there were times they were the only ones who looked dangerous and alert in the squad.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 5/10
We need Ronaldo and we need him back in a big way. Enough said.
Special shoutout to Marcus Rashford, who on his return from injury, scored the second equaliser. However, with how brief his appearance felt, I will not give him a rating
Ole Gunnar Solskjær: 3/10
Something needs to change. Soon. We have a season make-or-break section coming up. If we waste the last year of Pogba’s contract and a year with Ronaldo without a trophy, it may be time for Ole to go. This reminds me of what happened with Frank Lampard and Chelsea. While Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Lampard both lost finals and rebounded by making world class signings worth big money, they both underperformed. Lampard was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who transformed Chelsea into a UCL winner. If United had the chance to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjær and replace him with Zinedine Zidane, would they?
