A strong start to pre-season and what looks like a fruitful transfer window appears to have turned around a seriously low morale at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United. Even if it only proves to be temporary. The anguish and unrest at the end of last season, with things like the European Super League, anti-Glazer protests and the heart-breaking penalties defeat in Gdansk undoubtably leaving fans in a bit of a slump.
A refreshing break later and on the back of some outstanding international football this summer, there’s plenty to be optimistic about. Shaw and Maguire tearing up the left-hand side of defence. The pace of Sancho ripping up the wing. An abundance of talent appearing to come through in goal. This has the potential to be a momentous season for United. With such great power as this of course, comes the flip side of great responsibility. A point which begs a serious question- Is the man at the helm ready to lead to us to glory? Or could it be curtains by Christmas?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s big chance
Ever since his arrival, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has garnered a mixed reaction from fans as to whether he has the credentials to take United all the way. In all fairness, a look at recent seasons performances has indicted a certain level of success; consistent top four finishes and European finals being a good example. For some however, this progress isn’t moving quickly enough, and with a significant points gap between Liverpool and Manchester City in recent years, some would argue the direction of travel is heading the wrong way, if not stagnating altogether.
This point considered, surely this season is make or break for the boss. The amount of talent coming to his disposal, the fans are hungry for title success. A slow start to the season that we have grown accustomed to may not be enough this time. And surely progression from the Champions League group is a must. The pressure is well and truly on this time around as we all wait patiently and expectantly as our strongest team in years takes to the field in a few short weeks’ time.
A show of strength by January, or I fear the tide beginning to turn on a true United legend.
