Manchester United ended the 2020/21 campaign on a high when compared to last season. It would have been more fruitful if they were to win the thriller of a Europa League Finals. With the transfer window open, United would want to renew Pogba’s contract and get back to winning ways. Solskjaer was hoping to renew the contract of Cavani and succeeded in convincing him. His next focus would be to renew Pogba’s contract.
Pogba had been linked with a supposed move out of England since last summer. Spanish Giants, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid were interested in signing the Central Midfielder. But Pogba was keen on making a return to the Italian Giants- Juventus. He is currently with the national team preparing for the Euros hoping to make his mark in the tournament and lead his country to their second Euro Cup.
Pogba Current Form
The Frenchman had a fairly bitter season with United. The midfielder failed to make his mark until the second half of the season. Pogba was in a purple patch of form at the start of the season. He has been injury prone resulting in his inconsistent performance. He suffered a hamstring injury in a 3-3 draw against Everton, dropping crucial points in his absence. Despite he has appeared in 42 league games, starting 31 during the 2020/21 campaign.
Pogba 2020/21 Campaign
Pogba has scored 6 and assisted 6 and has been booked 7 times. He has scored 2 and assisted 1 in the Europa league and has made 293 passes in 5 starts. Pogba started 21 out of 26 games he appeared in. His importance in the starting 11 grew over time as the understanding in the Midfield increased. He has played a total of 26 key passes and 1331 passes with 84% success rate. He has also been masterful in defense. Pogba has registered 1.38 tackles/game ; 1.42 clearances/game with just 3 bookings in the League.
Over the second half of the season Pogba developed a lethal partnership with Fernandes in the midfield. The duo was explosive and had excellent fluidity in passing and creating chances. Despite Fernandes being a key player in United’s play, Pogba played a crucial role during the latter half. Pogba would envisage and pinpoint Fernandes and play dummy to fool the opponents. He played passes that tore open the rival defense which helped create opportunities to score. He switched roles with precision moving up and down the field.
What the Manager wants?
Solskjaer would want to Pogba to continue his term at Manchester United. United midfield is formidable as long as they remain consistent.
