Manchester United will go into the November International break in a lot better mood than the last one. Last time out, United lost 1-6 at home against Tottenham. United closed out the latest round of matches with a gutsy come from behind 3-1 victory over early pace setters in Everton. That victory came after dismal defeats and performance in general against Arsenal in the Premier League and Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League. As many as 16 United players have been called up for senior International duty. Here are the all the players called up and the matches to look forward to:
David De Gea (Spain)
De Gea has enjoyed a strong start to the season so far. And he will continue to carry that form to Spanish national team. Spain will face Netherlands in a friendly before facing Germany and Switzerland in their Nations League Group A4. Spain are currently top of group with 7 points from 4 matches, followed by Germany and Ukraine on 6.
Victor Lindelof (Sweden)
Sweden are going to play a friendly against Denmark before facing Croatia and France in their Nations League group A3. Mathematically, Sweden can not qualify for the main stages of the competition. However, these matches are crucial as it would determine who finishes bottom of the group and faces subsequent relegation to the B league.
Eric Bailly (Ivory Coast)
Eric Bailly, who had been injured, will hope to put his fitness issues behind him as he and his country faces Madagascar home and away in their Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Dean Henderson (England)
Dean Henderson, who made his Champions League debut against Istanbul Basaksehir, is rumoured to make his International debut in the friendly against Republic of Ireland. England then face Belgium and Iceland in Nations League group A2. England will likely have to win both these games to qualify for the main stage of the competition.
Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial (France)
France are playing Finland in a friendly before facing crunch matches against Portugal and Sweden. Like England, France will also be hoping to qualify for the main stages of Nations League from group A3.
Edinson Cavani (Uruguay)
Cavani returns to the Uruguay national team after missing out last time out. Uruguay are playing Colombia and Brazil in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
Bruno Fernandes (Portugal)
France’s chances of progressing to the main stages of Nations League is blocked by none other than Bruno Fernandes and Portugal. Both France and Portugal are level on points. The matches against France and Croatia are mightily important as Portugal will love to have the chance of defending their title from 2019. They will also face Andorra in a friendly match.
Daniel James, Dylan Levitt (Wales)
James and Levitt(on loan at Charlton) are going to face USA in a friendly match before facing Republic of Ireland and Finland. Wales are currently top of group B4 and will be hopeful of securing promotion to the A league.
Alex Telles (Brazil)
Telles has recently recovered from Covid-19 and did travel with the United squad to Everton. He will be hoping to clock up some minutes as Brazil face Venezuela and Uruguay in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
Donny Van De Beek (Netherlands)
Netherlands are currently 3rd in their Nations League group A1 and will have to beat both Bosnia-Herzegovina and Poland to have any realistic chance of making the main stages. They are also playing a friendly against Spain.
Scott McTominay (Scotland)
Scotland have arguably one of their biggest matches in a long time as they face Serbia to determine whether they can make the Euro 2020 or not. Scotland’s last major tournament was way back in 1998, so expect them to go all out for a victory. They are also playing Slovakia and Israel in Nations League group B2. A win against either opposition will secure promotion to the A league.
Ethan Galbraith (Northern Ireland)
United youngster Galbraith has been called up to the latest Northern Ireland squad for the all important tie against Slovakia to secure a spot in the main stages of Euro 2020. They are also facing Austria and Romania in their Nations League group B1. However, unless something miraculous happens, they are most likely to be relegated to the C league.
