Manchester United have been provided with a massive boost as Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford are set to be available for selection when the Premier League returns. However, it has not yet been determined when exactly this is likely to be, or in fact whether it will resume for certain.
Marcus Rashford is Manchester United's current top goalscorer and was on track to compete for the Golden Boot in the Premier League until his back injury forced him onto the sidelines in January of this year. He came on as a second half substitute against Wolves in Manchester United's 1-0 win against them in the FA Cup on the 15th of January, but was substituted after playing just 15 minutes. Since then, there were concerns about his availability for the European Championships in the summer (which has since been delayed until next year). Therefore the fact that he is fit already is a huge positive!
Paul Pogba has had a difficult season this year with injury problems and problems in the media, largely caused by his agent, Mino Raiola. Throughout the season the Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Manchester United, with Real Madrid and Juventus being the two biggest interests. In January, Pogba had surgery on his ankle which was expected to keep him out for a long time. Whilst there was hope that he would make a return towards the end of the season, many fans were sceptical. A statistic from Squawka showed that last season in the League, out of all Manchester United players, Paul Pogba had the most goals, assists, shots on target, take-ons, fouls won, chances created, possession won, passes into the final third and duals won. This really emphasises just how good Pogba is, and the quality he brings to the squad.
Since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, almost all Manchester United fans have been dreaming of the day that he and Paul Pogba play together. They are two of the most creative and technically gifted players in the world and we have been fortunate enough to see both of them showcase their ability in a Manchester United shirt separately, but the possibility of them playing together leaves many fans drooling at the thought.
Referring to Rashford and Pogba, Solskjaer told Sky Sports “For them two, this gives them a chance to start on a par with, or even ahead of, other players if or when we get going because they have been focused. Mentally it’s easier for them to train hard now because they can see the light at the end of the tunnel.” He went on to say that "with Marcus back, Bruno in, Paul Back, you would expect us to be more exciting".
It was reported last week that Solskjaer had called all of the Manchester United players back, asking those abroad to return to the UK in the hope of resuming training soon. Solskjaer has confirmed that he will not force anyone in the squad to play if they are not mentally ready to return after this break as a result of the pandemic. However, he added that the players have not raised too many concerns.
